A company that AI models bring up in the same context as you.
In AI visibility terms, a competitor is any company that an AI model brings up in the same context as you, whether or not you would call them a rival in the usual sense.
What matters is who the model puts in front of a person at the moment they are choosing. If the model mentions other companies for a question where you should appear, those companies are taking the visibility that could have been yours.
Seeing who comes up instead of you, and where, is often the most useful part of understanding your position.
